About the Challenge:

The Learning Planet Institute is driving an intergenerational, global movement to build a new form of university adapted to transitions across the world. With the Learning Planet Youth Design Challenge, we are leading the call to co-design the future of learning with youth.

The Learning Planet Youth Design Challenge 2024-25 invites students across the world aged 15-26 to propose learning programs and concepts aimed at creating flourishing, sustainable, and engaged universities of the future. An international jury comprising leaders from universities, youth networks, and social enterprises will select 12 finalists, with the top 2 receiving cash prizes. All finalists will receive mentorship training to refine their proposals, build essential relationships, and learn fundraising techniques to support their projects.

In its first year, 95 students from 31 countries pitched their ideas for learning, with 20 finalists mentored to develop their ideas into reality.

“I entered the Youth Design Challenge because I wholly believe in the vision of inviting youth to their own table to co-create and co-design learning materials and programs for what’s driving sustainable society and work.”Pearl Perumal, South Africa, won 1st Place for her programme ‘KinspirED’, Interweaving Indigenous wisdom for future well-being.

This year, the challenge is back bigger and better, targeting 500+ youth ideas from across the world, and continuing to build on the themes of flourishing, engagement, and sustainability.
